In Southern Vietnam, the Mekong Delta is home to myriad attractive destinations and unique ecosystems that deserve more than a day trip from Ho Chi Minh City. The River Mekong unravels into nine rivers, creating the fertile Delta as nowadays. Daily life in the delta flows with the ever-changing waters, rice fields are dug as the waters recede and fisheries thrive throughout the annual flood. Considered as the “Rice bowl” of Vietnam, Mekong Delta River brings the magic inside that appeals to all those who have come to this immense land. The Mekong Delta is completely focused around the water, which explains why the only way to navigate this region is by boat. You will see rice paddies, fruit orchards, and floating markets, Buddhist temples and family houses clinging to the river’s banks.

Cai Rang Floating Market

On day 1, start your day with an 8:00 AM pick-up from your centrally located hotel in Ho Chi Minh City. Then head to the city of My Tho by bus.
During the 1.5-hour bus drive to My Tho, learn about the cultures of the local people and enjoy the nice scenery of green rice fields.
Visit Vinh Trang pagoda, the biggest pagoda in Mekong Delta.
Continue to My Tho and take a boat trip along Mekong River. During the cruise, see fish cages and floating houses on the river.
The boat will take you to a small canal, where you can escape the busy town. The cruise through the coconut trees lined canal will take you to a coconut island in Ben Tre.
Disembark, walk around the village and visit a local family to enjoy tropical fruit, taste honey tea, honey wine and listen to Vietnamese traditional music, performed by the villagers.
Continue walking on the village’s road to a coconut candy shop to learn how to make candy and see some handicrafts made from coconut trees.
Take a walk through the village and discover many kinds of fruits, flowers, trees, and local houses. Take your time and take nice photos while enjoying the natural scenery.
Then, head to a local restaurant and enjoy a local Vietnamese lunch under the tree shade. After lunch, have free time to walk or bike around the village, then travel by ferry and bus to Can Tho, the heart of Mekong Delta.
Stay overnight in Can Tho
DAY 2: CAN THO – CAI RANG FLOATING MARKET – CHAU DOC (Meal: B, L)
After having breakfast, take a leisurely boat trip to explore the picturesque tributaries of the Lower Mekong river.
After, proceed to visit the Cai Răng floating market, which is the liveliest in the whole region. Take in the beautiful scenery and the daily activities of the locals who live along the Mekong canals.
Next, you will roam through the village, see fruit gardens and a rice noodles making shop.
After lunch, proceed to Chau Doc and continue the tour to visit Tra Su, getting to the wild birds Sanctuary, cruising smoothly with small boats to discover the arrays of splendid canals deep into the forest, watching storks, cranes and other tropical birds.
Arrive in Chau Doc, check in hotel and overnight in Chau Doc.
DAY 3: CHAU DOC – SAI GON OR CHAU DOC – PHNOMPENH BY SPEED BOAT (Meal: B, L)
Morning: After breakfast at the hotel, visitors take the nice motorized boat trip through the floating village to visit the fish farm and to see how the people in Mekong Delta raise fish on their floating house.
Visit the Champa minorities with their traditional towel weaving village, have a look at their Muslim. Then our a/c bus will take you back to Sai Gon. On the way we stop for lunch. You will get back HCM City (Sai Gon) around 5.00pm – 6.00pm. End tour. Say goodbye and see you again.
Option combine speed boat to Phnompenh in Cambodia (Extra: 35usd/ticket) After breakfast, transfer to a speed boat for the final part of the journey to Phnom Penh. Arrive at Sisowath tourist dock in Phnom Penh at around 2pm. End of services. Finish your Exit to Cambodia through the lower Mekong river.
Note: Passport and 2 photos are needed on tour.
(Drop off time at Ho Chi Minh city is subject to traffic, weather…so the finished time could be later than expecting)
